Dog Training

Dog training methods come in all shapes and sizes and the truth is, in many cases it’s “different courses for different horses” or dogs in our case. In this article we will present some methods for training dogs which can help you build a better relationship with your canine. If you have a stubborn dog then it might be time to start playing games with it…literally. We’re talking about play training sessions where you simply use the dogs love of play as the motivation.

You cannot make a dog do what it doesn’t want to do. Dogs love to do fun things so at least once a day, spend time with the dog and do some activity with it. Having a happy animal will make training it all the more easier. You can end up with an unhappy canine if you ignore it and don’t spend any time with it. So make a time most days to spend the necessary time with your dog.

Puppys are a bundle of fun and energy and usually hard to train. Here’s a strong training method – play at the puppy’s level. In other words, lower yourself down to it’s level. When you are at ground level you are bigger and more dominant and after awhile, the pup will get to understand this. Never let the puppy initiate the play such as jumping as you need to establish just who is boss from the beginning.

Always eat before your dog does. This is another strategy employed by dog trainers in establishing the master/pupil relationship. When you make your animal wait until you have had your fill you have established yourself as the dominant factor. Never let the dog eat first. This can lead to bad manners and can backfire especially when others are around with food. The animal can become brash and in many cases, attempt to get the food.

A dog training method for getting over the short attention span particularly with young dogs means taking them for short training sessions to areas where they cannot get distracted. This can be anywhere within your neighborhood but make sure there are no people or things around that will get his attention. Make these sessions short – about 20 minutes but more frequent. Speak to your canine in a dominant but friendly manner during this exercise. The idea is for it to recognize your voice as a command and to pay attention.
